Recently there has been a lot of internet chatter raised over the possible dropping of the “F-Bomb” by Pastor Andy Stanley of North Point Community Church. Now this is not the first time Stanley has done or said something that has raised the question of whether or not he is qualified to be in the pulpit. I have written on Andy Stanley in the past over at EBC†Ministries outlining the problems with his teaching, associations, and theology. You can read about what I have written about Andy Stanley here.
More recently, as of September 4th, 2016 Andy Stanley once again seemed to be trying to stir things up at his church, either purposely or via lack of self-control. If you are not aware of when I am referring to, Andy Stanley in his September 4, 2016, sermon seemingly let slip the “F-bomb.” I have provided the 18-second video below.
Now I am not the first one to have written or commented on this video. Some of the others that have commented include Chris Rosebrough at Pirate Christian Radio, JD Hall with the Polemics Report and the crew over at Pulpit and Pen. All these gentlemen have offered excellent critiques and opinions on what Andy Stanley said or didn’t say in his September 4th message. To be honest, I have not written about it up to this point for a couple of particular reasons, the main one being I wanted to have the time to have this video examined and analyze it.
Now what I have found Andy Stanley to be saying in this video does not only come from listening to it or slowing down the audio and listening to it but from several other ways of analyzing video audio. I wanted to make sure that when I decided to write on the subject of Andy Stanley dropping the “F-bomb” that I was able to confirm in fact that is what he said.
So, did Andy Stanley indeed drop the “F-bomb?” I can tell you from all the analysis that I have done that there is little doubt in my mind that Andy Stanley could not have been saying anything else. Now I say this only because, as I mentioned earlier, not only did I listen to the audio but I also had it analyzed.
To remove any doubt to why I say this with such confidence, I will explain how I came to this conclusion. I first examined the clip using my Dragon speech recognition software. What happened when the audio was played through this software was it recognized Andy Stanley’s slur of words as the “F-bomb.” Now I was not satisfied with only one test. So secondly, I put this video through Audio Notetaker. Now again when Andy Stanley’s words were played through this speech to text dictating device it came up again with the “F bomb being presented.” At this point, I was pretty confident of what Andy Stanley really said, but in fairness to the truth, I wanted to be 100% accurate.
So at this point, I asked a friend of mine who specializes in cyber-crime, internet security & facial speech recognition analysis if he could take a look at this video and analyze it for me. Here is another reason why I did not want to write on this subject until I had 100% proof either way of what was said or did not pontificate. I did not want to jump the gun and be wrong. Plus since my friend was doing this for me as a favor I had to wait for his availability. So, what my friend found when he ran this 18-second video was that Andy Stanley speech patterns and the impressions of his lip movement and facial recognition was analyzed with an 83.34% rate that the “F-bomb” was in fact muttered from Andy Stanley’s mouth.
At this point, between the analysis that I did on my own and what my friend was able to do with his equipment and programs I am confident that Andy Stanley left the “F-bomb” ripped from his lips during his sermon. Now whether or not it was intentional or accidental I cannot say nor will I make that judgment. I will say that knowing Andy Stanley’s history and his current disregard for biblical authority and church authority it would not surprise me that this was not an accident.
I will leave you with this simply question for anyone still in doubt of what Andy Stanley said. If Andy Stanley did not drop the “F-bomb” then else was he saying?
