This last Friday, September 9, 2016, started the opening ceremonies of the Code Orange Revival hosted by no other than Steven Furtick pastor of Elevation Church, or what I often referred to as the “Heresy Olympics.” These next ten days will feature Scripture twisting speakers: Christine Caine, Louie Giglio, Craig Groeschel, Carl Lentz, Darius Daniels, John Gray, Levi Lusko, and even Joyce Meyer.
Just as in past Code Orange Revival a.k.a. Heresy Olympics, I have written and criticized both Elevation Church, Steven Furtick and the guest speakers for not only their twisting of God’s word but their exploitation of the body of Christ at large. You can read all my past critiques of these recent “revivals” over at Empowered by Christ Ministries. Sadly, the first night of this year’s Code Orange Revival proved to be just as shallow and pragmatic as its former rivals of years past.
Steven Furtick was the opening night's guest speaker or better yet guest entertainer. Besides the standard expected narcissistic exegesis of Scripture, Steven Furtick added a new twist to his Bible twisting to this year’s revival. This year we were introduced to the supported “rhythm of revival” that God wants us to have. This supposed “rhythm of revival” presents itself to us from God in a certain methodology pointed out by Steven Furtick. According to Steven Furtick, it is by this method we can receive revival in our lives.
The key ingredient or formula to this ability to achieve revival in our lives according to Steven Furtick is activated when we “release, receive, respond, repeat.” It was this message that those attending the Heresy Olympics opening night were enlightened to accept as a “word” from God. Besides the obvious lack of scriptural support for this formula or rhythm for the receiving of revival, there was a bigger issue at hand throughout the entire evening.
Throughout the events of the evening and the constant repetitive mantra of “release, receive, respond, repeat” not only was God’s word missing from this revival, but one major word was never mentioned the entire night of the event. The word I am talking about is “REPENT!” This word was never referred to in the entirety of the evening. How can one expect to have a revival or better yet to “release, receive, respond, repeat” when there was never the mention of repentance of sin?
Without repentance or a calling to repentance from God granting the ability for people to have a heart of repentance, revival will never come. Since there is no repentance, no talk of sin, no talk of the need for repentance or the need of a Savior and no Gospel given we are only left with a revival of self-edification. We are left without the ability for true biblical revival.
Unfortunately, with the lineup of upcoming speakers for the rest of this event one will be hard-pressed to find any talk of repentance, the biblical Christ or to hear the true gospel being given. While there is a revival happening at this event the revival is not one of biblical mandate or from God, but clearly one of the enemies of the body of Christ.
