Are you a male? Are you a Christian? Are you voting for Trump? Then ask yourself why? If you are a regenerate follower of Christ, and you are male, you cannot vote for Trump. Does that sound judgy? Hope so. I hope I got your attention. If you are male and reading this, take a moment and ask yourself this; what is my reason for voting for Trump? If you ask yourself this question and examine your reasons for voting for this man, you will come to the conclusion I did, you cannot vote for him and hold to a biblical worldview, or call yourself a Christ follower and a Trump support. The two will not mix, just as oil and water do not mix. You will have to make a choice follow Christ or follow Trump.
If you have asked yourself, the question of why are voting for Trump and cannot seem to find the reasons why one cannot vote for him and still be a follower of Christ, then let me help you out a little. You may be thinking hey, I can vote for Trump because he is bold and states things as they are. He doesn’t take anything from anyone, and that is me. So I can vote for him because he is brash and strong and I want someone in the White House like that. While I would agree that Trump has an allure to him, mainly because he speaks what is on his mind and doesn’t care what others or the media says. While these types of acts make for significant media attention, they are not a reason to vote for him.
As Christians and especially being Christian men we need to as leaders of our families, our churches and those around us turn to the Word of God for our first and final authority. This turning to the Word of God applies to all areas of our lives, even when voting for the President of the United States. While some may argue that we are not voting for a pastor, and this may be true. We are, however, voting for this closest representation to our Christian worldview and for someone who is the closest representation of a Godly man. Does Trump represent a biblical worldview? Is Trump even close to representing an image of a Godly man? No, simply put, he does not. So how can a Christian male who’s job it is, is to lead as Christ led vote for Trump?
When we look at the Bible, we see what represents a Godly man. In Proverbs 12:15 we see that a fool is right in own eyes, but a wise man seeks counsel. InProverbs 13:10 we find that through insolence comes nothing but strife, But wisdom is with those who receive counsel. Also, in Proverbs 19:10 we learn that God men listen to advice and accept discipline, that you may be wise the rest of your days. Does any of the above verses describe Trump? While Trump may sound great and say things that everyone would love to say at one time or another, is Trump or does Trump fit what the Bible states is a wise man? No, he does not. Trump more resembles the definition of what the Bible would clearly call a “fool.”
If the lack of Trump’s wisdom and inability to seek wise counsel is not enough to make you stop and question your support of him, let’s take a moment and look at another problem with voting for Trump. What could be more troublesome than a lack of wisdom? Well, it could be Trump’s outright disrespect for women. Whether it has been his history of mudslinging with Hollywood types like Rosie O’Donnell, or his more recent rants over Megan Fox, Hillary Clinton, and the list could go on he has zero respect for women. This disrespect for women should be at the very least bothersome for Christian men. I know for me, I cannot hold any value to or honor for a man who does not respect God and via his disrespect for God, His Word, and his disrespect for women.
I know as a husband and a father of two boys, ages 21 & 13 I find Trump and his disdain for women one of the biggest reasons I could not vote for him and why any self-respecting Christian male should not be voting for him. As a father, I have always attempted (sometimes failing) to teach my boys and show them how to love, care and show respect to women by showing that respect to their mother and my wife. Men if you are not outraged by Trump’s attitude towards women in general, I ask you this; what is your attitude towards women? Is it one that lines up with the Word of God or the World? Is your view of women one that honor’s God or are you placating to your selfish wants and needs?
Any Christian male voting for Trump is voting against the respect of and for women and what the Bible teaches on the matter of how we are to love, protect, cherish, and respect women. Doing a quick search of the Bible you can find over 39 verse dealing with who men are supposed to treat women all the way from Genesis and all throughout the New Testament, there are far too many verses to list here. Matter of fact, the book of Ephesians chapter 5 is the perfect representation of how we as men are to love, protect, cherish, nurture, and respect the gift that God has given us in giving us a help mate here on earth. We are to walk in love towards them. While Ephesians 5 deals with the contextual bonds of marriage, the fundamental fact that can be learned here is that respect for women starts way before marriage. That respect towards women is transcendent throughout all Christian men's lives and should be towards all women in general. From what we have seen of Trump this fruit of “love” towards others and particularly women is nowhere to be found. Only the love of “self” if found when it comes to Trump.
If you (by you I mean the males reading this) take the time and look up verses on how to treat women in the bible, you will find for yourselves that none of them describe Trump or his charter towards women. You will have to come to the same conclusion I did. Trump and the Christian males vote do not mix.
